Like many modern love stories, theirs started with a match on a dating app.

Their first date almost didn’t happen. Michael was supposed to go to a concert with a friend, but when that friend unexpectedly left town, he found himself with an extra ticket. He took a chance and asked Akana to join him instead. They met for a drink at Cosmic Coffee first, headed to the show together, and ended the night at a local mezcalería with friends. It was spontaneous, easy, and set the perfect tone for their relationship. On September 15, 2021, they officially started dating.

After that first spontaneous night, their relationship grew naturally. Many of their early memories were made at sunrise in Zilker Park, where they’d start each day walking their dogs, talking, laughing, and slowly building the life they’d share.

What began with a concert on their first date grew into a shared love of live music and plenty of adventures along the way. From local Austin venues to road trips and festivals, seeing their favorite artists together has given them countless opportunities to explore, travel, and make memories together.

In July of 2025, they escaped to the Texas Hill Country with Kaya and Shadow for a quiet weekend that felt like it was just theirs. Surrounded by open skies, warm light, and their pups, Michael asked Akana to spend her life with him. The next morning, the four of them set out on a peaceful hike. Grateful, emotional, and so excited for what was ahead.
